Accessibility statement
Built to be used by everyone in the room.
Lambda aims to meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard, which is what ADA Title II requires of public colleges. This page says what that means here, what we know still falls short, and how to tell us when something does not work.
What works
- Keyboard. Every page can be used without a mouse. A skip link, page landmarks, and visible focus rings are on every page. Study-mode and quiz-mode choices are radio groups that take the arrow keys.
- Screen readers. In the atlas, each marker is a button named for its structure. Moving to one reads its tissue type and definition through a live region. The Glossary lists every structure with its definition as text, and each entry links to the views it appears in.
- Time limits. The quiz's time per question can be lengthened to two minutes or turned off entirely, and the choice is remembered on your device.
- Motion. The quiz marker pulses gently. It stops when your system asks for reduced motion, and the Still marker option stops it on any device.
- Color and contrast. Text meets the AA contrast ratio. Right and wrong answers are told in words and never by color alone.
- Zoom. Nothing blocks pinch zoom or browser zoom. The atlas figure keeps its layout at any size, and a tap on a zoomed phone goes to the nearest marker.
Known limitations
- One quiz mode is visual by nature. Name it asks you to identify a marked spot on a photograph, which a screen reader cannot convey. By definition covers the same structures from their definitions and needs no image; it is the intended equivalent, not a fallback.
- The plates are photographs. The text alternative for each is its list of labeled structures, with definitions in the Glossary, not a description of the specimen itself.
- The capture tool, which instructors use to place markers, works with a keyboard but is more comfortable with a mouse.
How this was checked
Every page was run through an automated checker against WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules and passed with no violations. Keyboard-only use was tested by hand on a desktop, and touch use on a phone. Screen reader testing is ongoing.
Tell us what does not work
If something on this site does not work for you, tell your instructor or send it through the feedback form. Say which page and what you were trying to do. Problems that block use of the site are treated as bugs and fixed first.
